Former Public School Official Arrested

William Webb, a former assistant principal in the Los Angeles Unified School District, was arrested yesterday on allegations of sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old student in 2006. At the time of the alleged misconduct, Webb, 51, was assigned to Vista Middle School in Van Nuys.

At this time, Webb has not been formally charged by way of arraignment. However, Webb is being held on $120,000. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is charging Mr. Webb with lewd acts with a child, oral copulation with a person under 18, and sodomy of a person under 18.

Reports indicate that the LAPD began an investigation into Webb in February 2015. At that time, another former student of Webb’s filed a complaint of suspected child abuse with the police. Webb was working at a high school in downtown Los Angeles until 2014. The parents of students at that high school, Ramon C. Cortines High School of Visual and Performing Arts, were notified of Webb’s assignment and now his arrest.

Webb was arrested the day after the Los Angeles Unified School District settled a different sexual abuse case for $88 million. That case involved allegations of sexual abuse against as many as 30 children in Pacoima and Wilmington.

Criminal charges can involve life-altering consequences. If you or a loved one has been charged with a crime or is being investigated for a crime, it is important to contact a criminal defense attorney to protect and exercise your rights.
